What's your flavor?
You have many different options. If the cake is multiple tiers, many people are choosing to have several different kinds of cake. Each level can be different, offering something for everyone. With weddings, almost anything goes when it comes to the cake.

What kind of Icing?
Traditionally icing has been white or a light cream color. However today, many are matching their icing color with the overall theme of the wedding.. The actually icing can be a simple sugar and flour recipe or even a rich cream cheese icing. There are many great icing ideas online which are sure to please even the most picky guests.

Decorations
Decorating a cake is only limited by your imagination. Some couples design the cake around the décor or theme of the wedding, while others give the cake a unique look--with crazy and outrageous decorations that define who they are. Bakers decorate cakes with the look of lace, embroidery appliqué or elegant drapes or swag.

Your wedding cake should be as individual as you. Shop around, decided on the cake, style and decorations and find a baker who is willing to accommodate you. Many couples even order their cakes as much as 6 months ahead of time to insure they get what they want.

Use tiered cake stands to build a cupcake tree or a tower of cascading cupcake wedding cakes. Stands come in different sizes, so you can make your cupcake tree as tall or as low as you wish. How about making each cupcake in a special shape of a flower or a star? Cupcakes are so popular because they are different, their price is lower than traditional wedding cakes and they are usually easier to decorate. Natural (organic), silk and fondant flowers and fruits are always beautiful as decorations. Use spring flowers for spring wedding and fall fruits for fall wedding.

Play with the colors and you will get gorgeous and unique cupcake wedding cakes. For more colorful designs, use the liners in different colors including gold or silver ones!

For your cupcake decoration you may also use wedding cake miniature jewelry. Monogramming cakes is nice and a very popular idea as well!

Bride's and groom's pictures would be very original and some guests may eat them with pleasure. You could make blue cupcakes for the groom and pink ones for the bride! The possibilities are endless, as you may see.

Choosing a wedding caterer may be one of the most important tasks in your wedding plans. Most wedding caterers have lots of other connections in the wedding industry and can often save you a great deal of time, money and effort. By referring you to other services or simply adding other services you need to their list, your wedding caterer is worth his or her weight in gold!

HOW TO CHOOSE A WEDDING CATERER

If you want to avoid choosing the 'wedding caterer from hell,' here are five tips to make your decision easier:

1. The first thing you want to do is ask around in your own circle for references to a good wedding caterer. And by the way, 'wedding' is the operative word here--lots of caterers may not necessarily have experience with weddings, and that particular experience is important. But among your own friends and family, someone will be able to put in a good word for a wedding caterer that they've either had a positive experience with themselves, or heard good things about.

2. If that doesn't work, check with well-known local venues (even if you're not having your wedding in one of them). Local venues will work with local wedding caterers, and their reputation depends on having quality wedding caterers available to choose from. If that doesn't work, check with any other rental agencies you'll be using for any part of your wedding planning--any company that works within the industry will have a list of reputable local wedding caterers to choose from.

3. Once you have a list of three or four wedding caterers to choose from, call, email or visit the website for each of them. Apart from getting a 'feel' for the company, you can also find out other specifics. Company history, particular specialties (cultural, for example) and availability are just as important as pricing at this point.

4. The next step is to interview the wedding caterers--this will confirm a 'feeling' for the company, and also allow you to tell them about you and your wishes, and get their feedback.

5. In the process of elimination, the final step you can take is to do a 'taste test' of some food samples from one or two of them. Ask for an appointment and let them know you'd like a couple of samples of the type of food you would order for your wedding.

If you follow these five steps, you WILL find a first-class--yet affordable--wedding caterer!
Wedding Food - Reception Necessities
The wedding cake is a big part of the wedding and something everyone remembers. So when deciding on which cake is right for your perfect day, there are many factors to take into consideration.
When is your wedding?
The date and location of your wedding is crucial when choosing the cake. For instance, if you plan on having a summer wedding at a hot location, things like mousse or even ice cream cake might be out of the question Ask your baker what types of cake are in "season."
How big will the cake be?
Wedding cakes can come in all shapes and sizes. Traditional cakes that have several tiers are normally a great choice and are ones your guests will remember. Depending on how many guests you have, your options are limitless. Of course the biggest factor in deciding how large your wedding cake should be is knowing how many guests you will have.

Cupcake Wedding Cakes

You know that cupcake wedding cakes are very hot these days. Cupcakes wedding cakes might be arranged beautifully as cascading towers or trees with the help of cake stands.

Drinks
Weddings are notorious for their toasts. In fact, many couples are now buying commemorative champagne glasses etched with hearts, their names, or other designs. There are many different ways you can serve drinks at your reception.

First, and most expensive, you can have an open bar. This means that the bar will be available to guests for the whole duration of the reception. Generally, with an open bar, guests will be able to get any drink their hearts desire (and how ever many), so it can become quite an expense. The second idea is to have a limited bar, which is much less expensive. This can be taken in two ways, you can either have a limited amount of time for guests to get drinks, or you can have a limited variety of drinks, or both. The third option is to have a cash bar, which makes the guests pay for any drinks they get. This is not recommended no matter how tight your budget is. The last idea is to not have alcoholic beverages at all. This will really decrease your reception costs and is a great option if you and/or yourfamilies do not drink.

For all of you couples who do choose to have alcoholic beverages, you may be confused about how much you actually need to get. Below are amounts for various drinks, based on an amount of 100 guests. If you are going to be serving many different drinks, you'll want to split these amounts accordingly.

Beer: 2 cases
Whiskey: 1-2 liters
Bourbon: 1-2 liters
Gin: 2 liters
Scotch: 3 liters
Light rum: 2 liters
Vodka: 6 liters
Tequila: 1 liter
Champagne: 1 1/2 cases
Red wine: 8 bottles
White wine: 1 1/2 cases
Dry vermouth: 2 bottles
Sweet vermouth: 2 bottles

You'll want all of the guests to at least have some kind of drink for the toasts. The most popular choice is champagne with wine close behind.  Some couples will choose to have the "bubbly" effect without the alcohol and simply use sparkling cider. If you are having a daytime or casual wedding, you may choose something a little more fun like cranberry juice or lemonade. Just make sure you take into account the style of the wedding as well as your own personal tastes when choosing drinks for your reception.
