Honeymoon registries are gaining popularity, especially among older brides and grooms who already have all the housewares associated with traditional wedding registries. Whether you want to take a tour of the Costa Rican rain forest or scuba dive in shark filled waters, you can create a honeymoon registry to make your vacation dreams come true.  If you and your soon-to-be spouse would love a honeymoon, but it's not in the budget, you should consider setting up a honeymoon registry. Although many wedding guests will give cash for a gift, if you set up a registry specifically for your trip, it might prompt well wishers to give generously. It is important to select the correct kind of registry and to word the invitation correctly so that you do not appear appear greedy or rude.

1. Visit honeymoon registry sites and see what benefits they offer. Some services offer honeymoon packages or allow couples to create unique registries. Others feature free registration and offer wedding website templates for users, free of charge.

2.  Decide what type of honeymoon you want. You may choose to stay in the country, or you may want to plan an international vacation. Perhaps you crave adventure, or maybe your prefer to relax on the beach or get pampered with spa treatments.

3.  Choose a destination. Honeymoon registries offer detailed descriptions of accommodations, dining and attractions for featured vacation spots.

4.  Conduct independent research of hotels where you want to stay. Honeymoon registry sites may receive financial incentives to feature resorts, so it is important that you read independent ratings and reviews.

5.  Create your honeymoon registry. Before you get carried away with registering for pricey excursions, remember that you must have airline tickets and hotel reservations to take a vacation. Determine your priorities and proceed accordingly.

6.  Notify your guests of your honeymoon registry on your wedding invitations or by word-of-mouth.

7.  Set aside funds to cover travel expenses not purchased by your wedding guests. You will have to pay the remaining balance on your registry in order to take your trip. Keep this in mind and try not to register for a honeymoon that is way beyond your means.

How to word a Honeymoon Registry

1.  Select the type of honeymoon registry you would like to use. This can affect the wording of your registry as well as how your guests end up paying for it. Some registries let you apply money to your hotel, and some are through a travel agency, and so on. Consider your ceremony and your guests as well as your own desires. Discuss it with your fiancee and figure out what suits you.

2.  Set up the items on the registry. Make sure to provide a wide price range so that there is an item or activity for any guest to purchase.

3.  Write a pleasant, polite introduction. Do not seem greedy or self-centered, and thank visitors to the registry in every text box that allows personalization. Try writing about your upcoming marriage and how excited you are to spend the day with people who mean so much to you.

4.  Personalize your registry so guests know what they are paying for. If you are going on a carriage ride, for example, you should detail that.

5.  Inform guests of he registry in whatever way is acceptable to you. It is considered rude to request not to be given gifts, because that implies that you were expecting them. Also, seeming like you are trying to force guests to pay for your honeymoon rather than another gift they wish to give you is rude. Politely mention the honeymoon registry and leave it at that.
